Cuso International Peru works with local organizations to help reduce poverty by creating sustainable livelihoods and projects as well as, to combat inequality by empowering people and communities. We build trusted partnerships with various local partners, including nongovernmental organizations, governments, social enterprises and cooperatives.
In the field of Urban agriculture (UA), as we defined as; the growing, processing, and distribution of food and other products through plant cultivation and seldom raising livestock within and around cities, Cuso International Peru is working very closely in this area with local partner!
Urban and peri-urban agriculture is remerging worldwide as a strategy to simultaneously address food security and capacity in urban centers, health, environment and income generating issues. The most striking feature of UA, which is different from rural agriculture, is that it is embedded in and it interacts with the urban economic and ecological system in cities.

Through our "Feeding Lima from Within" project, along with our local partners, we have created a unique urban participative guarantee system (PGS). This farmer-centric and bottom-up approach to organic quality assurance is based on the participative definition?by the urban farmers and consumers ?of voluntary standards for organic production, as well as we emphasize on the need for gender equality, solidarity-based economy and social justice to this practice. The goal is to strengthen the productive and organizational capacity of urban producers through the implementation of a participative training and extension system focused on community work and cohesion-This is a new project!

As a volunteer, you will be supporting the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the "Feeding Lima from Within" project alongside with our Cuso International team in Peru, volunteers and local farmers and communities (Urban Agriculture Multi-Stakeholder Platform).

Cuso International works in many places around the world, one of which is Peru. Our Cuso International Peru office has recently implemented our VOICE project in 2015 which stands for Volunteers for International Cooperation and Empowerment. This project focuses on increasing the capacity of community-based organizations and the government in order to deliver innovative and sustainable/inclusive development opportunities for women, men, and youth in poor and marginalized communities. Cuso International Peru focuses on two VOICE projects areas: Inclusive Sustainable Economic Growth (ISEG) project area and Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) project area.

Cuso International terms and conditions allow you to lead a modest and healthy lifestyle while being effective in your placement. This support package will cover basic living expenses for one volunteer and is not intended to cover home-based expenses (ex. loans, support payments, etc.) or luxury items such as imported items in placement or international personal travel.
We ask each volunteer, regardless of placement length, to raise $2,000. All volunteers receive support from Cuso International to help achieve the goal through fundraising. If the volunteer chooses not to fundraise or is unable to achieve the fundraising goal, he/she can make a one-time donation or become a monthly donor to support our work.
Depending on the nature of the placement, volunteers are encouraged to provide e-volunteering support to the local partner or Cuso International before or after the field placement. Volunteers also have the option of requesting support from an e-volunteer to help them with their work while they are in placement.
Residency and Citizenship
The majority of Cuso International volunteer applicants are residing in Canada at the time of application and during the pre-departure process. Occasionally we received applications from volunteer applicants who are residing outside of Canada at the time of application. In both instances, between your application date and placement start date, we must be able to contact you and you must be able to contact us easily and promptly throughout the process.
We may require your passport and would need to be aware of your current place of residence and any travel plans you may have during this time. You will also require unrestricted access to Canada during this time for assessment and training, as applicable.
Leaving your country of residence can have significant effects on your citizenship status in that country. It is your responsibility to research the consequences of travelling to Canada during the pre-departure process if you are living outside of Canada and of leaving your country of residence for a placement with the immigration authority where you live.
