The North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre (NIWRA) is a well-established wildlife rehabilitation and education facility located in Errington, BC on beautiful Vancouver Island. Founded in 1984 and overseen by a Board of Directors, Operations Manager, and Office Manager; NIWRA has continued to grow due to the dedication of staff, the amazing volunteers and incredible community support. NIWRA is a not-for-profit registered charity that advocates the well-being of Vancouver Island wildlife and strives to educate the public about wildlife and related issues.

Board Members Wanted

The North Island Wildlife Recovery Association is seeking applicants to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Board of Directors, this is a voluntary position. The Board is comprised of individuals who are dedicated to the Association's mission. Board members are expected to have the financial acumen to read and understand NIWRA's financial statements and to otherwise help the Board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities. The ideal board candidate should have prior non-profit board member experience and a previous accounting background is preferred.

Board Members are expected to:

  • Attend the monthly meeting. Read the agenda, submitted reports and other information and come prepared to participate in discussion
  • Play an active role in securing the financial resources necessary for NIWRA to achieve its mission; this includes participation in fundraising, grant applications, etc.
  • Responsibly represent NIWRA in the community and to advocate for the Association's mission, programs, and projects as appropriate

Board Members are elected for annual terms. It is hoped that an elected Board Member will remain for a three-year term with an option to step-down at the time of the Annual General Meeting in June of each year.
