Type: board of directors position / unpaid
Organization: COABC / Certified Organic Associations of British Columbia
Location: anywhere in British Columbia

Accreditation Board (AB) of the COABC-British Columbia Certified Organic (BCCOP) Producer Member

The Certified Organic Association of British Columbia (COABC) has been appointed by the Province of British Columbia to administer the certified organic scheme (farm to fork) in BC. This includes the core work of accrediting the certification bodies in BC that, in turn, certify a large number of the organic businesses (predominantly farms) in BC. The COABC AB is a designated Conformity Verification Body (CVB) under the oversight of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and is responsible to monitor compliance with COR and recommend accreditation for Certification Bodies.

The Accreditation Board (AB) of the COABC is seeking one (1) new BCCOP Producer member for a three (3) year term, starting in October 2018. Please note that these are volunteer positions and on average require a few hours per month.  Other time requirements are listed below.  Any travel requirements are reimbursed per the COABC policy.  This is a great opportunity to enhance your knowledge of the organics sector in Canada and to work with a dynamic team of professionals.

The person appointed to the Accreditation Board will have the following basic qualifications:

  • a) Experience in agricultural production and a working knowledge of the Canadian Organic Standard and the Canada Organic Regime. Experience in livestock would be considered an asset.
  • b) Have 2 or more years experience with a certified operation in the BC Certified Organic program
  • c) Experience in volunteer boards of incorporated societies.
  • d) Ability to attend a minimum of three (3) meetings per year (April/May, July/August – teleconference and November- weekend in-person) and participate in additional teleconference/email meetings, as required.

Applicants must be committed to attending, preparing for and actively participating in meetings and email discussions. Applicants are also expected to have a high degree of personal integrity, in particular the ability to maintain confidentiality and be aware of issues pertaining to conflicts of interest.  Preference will be given to candidates with only one conflict of interest in BC certification bodies and organic operations.

To apply, please send your resume and cover letter to office@certifiedorganic.bc.ca .
