At the Fraser Basin Council (FBC), we recognize youth as a driving force for change and work to support them as they learn from and network with local leaders, identify sustainability challenges in their community, and collaboratively design their own solutions.

The Youth Program at FBC has created a community of like-minded individuals who prioritize youth-led sustainability and climate action in their communities. Our goals are:

  • To create a safe, open-minded, optimistic, and high-spirited environment where learning, exploration and innovation is fun and engaging
  • To foster a sense of community and feeling of empowerment in a diverse group of young people who share a common concern for sustainability and climate change
  • To empower and equip young people with the means, knowledge, and skills to drive impactful, meaningful, and achievable change in their own communities

We would love to have you on board!

We are currently recruiting 12 youth (aged 16-30) in each region for our Co-Creating a Sustainable BC initiative.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Participants in our Co-Creating a Sustainable BC initiative will work with the Youth Program facilitators as they embark on their sustainability journeys.

  • The focus of the Thompson region cohort will be on understanding sustainability and climate related topics relevant to their community while collaborating to identify solutions.
  • The focus of the Cowichan cohort will be on understanding how to apply knowledge in a practical, meaningful way and becoming life-long learners.
  • The focus of the Fraser Valley cohort will be on understanding sustainability and climate related topics relevant to their community while collaborating to identify solutions.
  • The focus of the North Central BC cohort will be on understanding and working together to address sustainability issues in the North.

Participants will also:

  • Attend workshops on various sustainability-related topics
  • Network with professionals from your region and throughout the province
  • Work with a community of diverse youth who share a common interest in sustainability
  • Acquire practical, hands-on skills
  • Collaboratively design and develop a project that addresses a sustainability gap in each region
  • Go on field trips!
