Position: Ranch Helper / Forest Safety
Type: volunteer with accom + small stipend for groceries (see below)
Organization: Muktuk Adventures
Location: Ibex Valley, outside of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, northern Canada

We are located just 25 minutes outside of Whitehorse and operate an adventure company that offers dog sledding tours in the winter, and educational tours and canoeing in the summer.

Two helpers are needed to assist with protecting our boreal forest ranch. The ranch is off-grid, located on the Takhini River in the Yukon. We have solar power and solar water collectors. Our location is best suited to individuals who enjoy spending time away from urban settings.

We have to take care of the forest on our ranch, to minimize the risk of fire near structures and animals. We also have to clean up damage done prior to our arrival. Work is almost exclusively outside. We provide rooms in cabins, and a small stipend for groceries. Shower available in the main lodge. There is cell service (though not in all locations on the ranch).

The priority is to be good stewards of this land, and to respect the land — there are lynx, moose, fox, bear, coyotes, wolves, deer, porcupines and eagle in and around the ranch. As there is a bit of a learning curve, we need people who are able to stay for four weeks at a time. This would be ideal for anyone studying or interested in northern boreal forests.
