Position: Executive Committee Member

Sierra Club Canada Foundation (SCCF) empowers people to protect, restore and enjoy a healthy and safe planet. SCCF’s objective is to protect and restore the health of the natural environment, including communities, by empowering Sierra Club members and its citizens through education, advocacy, and action. SCCF’s framework allows members to actively contribute to environmental causes that concern or inspire them, in a capacity that best suits their capabilities. Engaging with local officials, working collaboratively with local organizations, and a working with a strong volunteer base has allowed us to successfully engage in environmental campaigns that directly benefit both people and the planet.

At Sierra Club Ontario, our work mainly focuses on protecting the Great Lakes ecosystem, growing and protecting the Greenbelt, and promoting Green Energy adoption in Ontario. Sierra Club Ontario also works on very local issues, in coordination with smaller communities in Ontario.

Sierra Club Ontario's (SCO) Nomination Committee is seeking candidates for members to serve on its Executive Committee, commencing January 2018.

Candidates should be passionate about environmental protection and supporting grassroots activists in local communities to advocate for a more sustainable, greener future.

  • A track record of commitment and reliability as a volunteer/campaign leader, and facility as a team player
  • Experience and success in developing and executing on Fundraising and Development strategies for non-profit organizations
  • At this time, SCO is particularly interested in candidates suited to join its Finance Committee, as well as candidates to help strengthen its Campaign Outreach and Communications efforts in local communities.

The Executive Committee is responsible for leadership and good governance, which means:

  • Vision - planning for the future
  • Destination - setting goals and providing a general ‘road map’
  • Resources - securing the resources necessary to achieve the goals or reach the destination
  • Monitoring - periodically ensuring that the organizational vehicle is well-maintained and progressing, within legal limits, toward its destination and
  • Accountability - ensuring efficient use of resources; reporting progress and detours to stakeholders.

SCO's Executive Committee meets 6 times per year and is committed to equity, inclusion, and diversity in all of its appointments and activities, self-nomination is welcome. Deadline to apply is Friday, October 27, 2017.
