Position: GNN Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator

Green Neighbours Network of Toronto (GNN) is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate volunteer to dedicate his/her time and expertise to support this Not-for-Profit organization’s goals and objectives acting as the GNN Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator.

Launched in April 2018, GNN is a network of independent community groups and individuals working together with a common goal: to help make Toronto a city of greener, more vibrant neighbourhoods and a leader in the worldwide urban movement against climate change. GNN aims to facilitate collaboration among members, mobilize individuals concerned about the environment, and mentors new green groups. We strive to help our members develop skills for effective civic engagement and to build a rich web of alliances with other groups in the areas of health, environment, transit, housing and social justice. We are keen to expand this new network across the city and GTA.

Purpose: The GNN Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator will provide leadership throughout the volunteer recruitment process; from identifying the need for volunteers, posting volunteer opportunities, setting up interviews, assessing potential candidates, to the recruitment and onboarding of the selected volunteers.


The position of GNN Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator will involve a time commitment, on average, of 12-16 hours a month and will entail the following tasks:

  1. Partner with the GNN Volunteer Coordinator and GNN Event Planning Team to identify volunteer needs.
  2. Create or update volunteer role descriptions.
  3. Post volunteer opportunities in the different platforms available.
  4. Identify potential candidates whose interests, background and experience match with the volunteer role requirements.
  5. Set up interview sessions (phone calls or video conference calls) with the potential candidates.
  6. Select, recruit and onboard volunteers.

Qualifications and Personal Characteristics:

  1. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  2. Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  3. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, etc.).
  4. Detailed oriented and resourceful.
  5. Good listener and service oriented.
  6. A passion for the environment and community-building
  7. Experience in recruiting volunteers would be an asset.

Time Commitment:

  • 12-16 hours per month.


The GNN Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator will follow an onboarding process and will be supported by the GNN Board of Directors Team throughout the entire duration of their volunteer work.
