VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Position: Chief Operations Officer, Chief Communications Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Marketing Officer
Organization: Pitch It Green
Location: Toronto/GTA, Ontario

OVERVIEW

Pitch It Green is a non-profit organization that strives to bridge the disconnect between youth, environmentalism, and entrepreneurship through sustainability-focused business opportunities.

Since its creation in July of 2018, the organization has launched an eco-friendly subscription box service where it seeks to promote the sustainable products of local entrepreneurs. Through the box, funds generated will be utilized for environmentally-focused business pitch competitions, conferences, and workshops.

We are looking for highly motivated, proactive, and dynamic senior high school students and post-secondary leaders with a strong work-ethic and a passion for the environment and business. If you share our vision and possess values that align with our mission, we would love to have you on our team!

NOTES

  • Meetings will occur bi-weekly, on weekends, in a location on an online platform dependant on the team’s availability

  • Besides our events, time commitment is expected to be ~3-5 hours/week

  • This is a contract position starting on August 30, 2019 to August 29, 2020

CURRENT AVAILABLE POSITIONS: 


CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Directly oversee and lead the operations department and report directly to the Executive Director

  • Analyze internal operations and identify areas of process enhancement

  • Develop actionable strategies and plans that ensure alignment with short-term and long-term objectives developed in tandem with the Executive Director

  • Maintain and build trusted relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and stakeholders

  • Organize all aspects of an event(s): agenda, speakers, etc.

  • Design and host independently and jointly-held workshops

  • Assist beneficiaries of possible community programs

  • Attend tabling opportunities, conferences and events representing the organization

  • Maintain comprehensive record of contacts (influencers, NPOs, press)

KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS MAY INCLUDE:

  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities

  • Leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity

  • Understanding of business planning and regulatory issues

  • A solid grasp of performance metrics

  • Be able to diagnose problems quickly and have foresight into potential issues

ASSETS:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management or environmental studies

  • Experience in executive leadership positions

 


CHIEF COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Directly oversee and lead the communications department and report to the COO

  • Establish rapport with media outlets (press releases, statements)

  • Write and distribute periodic reports to stakeholders

  • Create and distribute frequent mass-targeted newsletters

  • Moderate and facilitate discussion on Pitch It Green Facebook group

  • Update website information as necessary

  • Address general inquiries over email and social platforms

  • Contribute to Pitch It Green’s blog with articles and resources (e.g., handbook)

KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS MAY INCLUDE:

  • Leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity

  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities are preferred

  • Be able to diagnose problems quickly and have foresight into potential issues

ASSETS:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or public relations

  • Experience in executive leadership positions

  • Proficiency in SEO, Buffer, and MailChimp

 


CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Directly oversee and lead the finance department and report to the COO

  • Accurately record and efficiently distribute meeting minutes

  • Meticulously track annual income/expenses and budget accordingly

  • Maintain detailed documentation of product sales, sourcing, etc.

  • Ensure general team organization (Google Drive, Dropbox, inbox)

  • Assist with the upkeep of team accountability through project management platforms (Trello, Slack)

  • Assist with NPO renewal(s)

  • Search, write, and submit grant applications

KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS MAY INCLUDE:

  • Leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills

  • Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and tax planning

  • Knowledge of raising capital for non-profit ventures

ASSETS:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or commerce

  • Experience in executive leadership positions

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is an asset

 


CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Directly oversee and lead the marketing department and report to the COO

  • Coordinate regular social media activity (share & create content)

  • Effectively obtain and sustain sponsorships with professionalism

  • Secure strong partnerships and connections (NPOs, businesses)

  • Build relations with mentors/advisors to seek candidates for the Board of Directors

  • Attend networking events on behalf of the organization

  • Drive consistent branding and cohesive “aesthetic” of organization

  • Manage all promotional materials/channels and oversee strategy

  • Spearhead creativity and team image in preparation for pitches

KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS MAY INCLUDE:

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills

  • Experience with digital and print marketing, content marketing, and social media marketing

ASSETS:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, or communications

  • Successful track record in marketing roles and creating marketing campaigns

  • Skills in graphic design, photo/videography, editing
