Wanted: Assessment/Foster Homes
Organization: Annex Cat Rescue
Location: in your home, Toronto, Ontario
Annex Cat Rescue works with community cats (feral, semi-socialized and abandoned cats) throughout Toronto. Where possible, ACR socializes kittens and cats in foster homes until they are adoptable. Yet not all cats can be homed in a traditional sense. We also manage 20 colonies where cats are fed, sheltered and vetted if needed and help community members as we can. We all volunteer-run and have been so for 20 years.
Assessment homes are the key to ACR’s success in bringing cats off the street. Every cat we believe may have socialization potential must go through an assessment home. The role of the assessment home is to get to know the cat and see if he/she is socializable. Usually, an assessment takes 2-4 weeks and then the cat would either be matched to a regular foster home or returned to his/her colony.
The cat(s) would be neutered/spayed and vaccinated before going to your home.
Ideally, you would have a separate and quiet space for the cat or cats (if it is a bonded pair) or at least a quiet corner where a large cage could be placed.
We can help you with support and advice, a large cage and supplies. Read more here about what is involved in being an Assessment Home with Annex Cat Rescue. It is best if assessment and socialization homes have had some exposure to feral and semi-feral cats and have great compassion for cats that are transitioning off the street and the trauma that street life may have caused to a cat. We can also start you off with more "easy" cases if you're unsure.
