The Volunteer’s Role

The overall purpose of the placement is to enhance the capacity of the National Agriculture Research and Extension Institute to develop appropriate systems to promote balanced, diversified and sustained agricultural production. A very important component of agricultural research involves the interpretation of statistical data, to derive valid conclusions. Utilization of the most suitable experimental design and subsequent data collection are also integral in the decision-making processes.

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Support researchers in determining and establishing the most appropriate designs for field and laboratory experiments.
  • Assist in identifying the relevant data to be collected
  • Support the establishment and train key personnel to use, appropriate statistical packages to analyze the data.
  • Work with staff to interpret and report on statistical results.
  • Develop format for research reports and train staff to prepare reports.

Essential Academic Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Agriculture Science, Biometrics, agricultural analysis or statistics or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Science or other relevant field with 5 to 10 years’ experience.

Essential Professional Background:

  • 5-10 years of practical experience providing data analysis and interpretation for agriculture field and laboratory experiments.
  • The ideal candidate should be familiar with agricultural research activities and trained in biometrics/statistics.
  • Ability to train others

  • Travel and accommodation for the five-day pre-departure training course and for in-country orientation
