Position: Youth Ottawa DILA Facilitator

DILA stands for Day of Information for a Lifetime of Action. The goal of the DILA Program is to inspire youth to take action on social and environmental issues.  We seek to demonstrate how students can and must play a central role in shaping and building communities, both locally and abroad. During classroom visits DILA facilitators work with students to develop youth’s civic engagement skills by having them identify, research and take action on issues that are relevant to them.


Facilitating an 8 Visit curriculum, the DILA facilitator works with teachers in Grade 10 Civics classes in Ottawa-area High Schools (Ottawa Catholic School Board and Ottawa Carleton District School Board schools).  Working with 1-2 sections at any given time, the facilitator is responsible for  managing their schedule of visits, completing program evaluation surveys, and reporting to the DILA Program Coordinator.  

Program Start/ Terms (4-8 weeks) 2-4 hours a week.

  • Experience working with youth in a facilitation capacity (coach, counsellor, director, instructor)
  • Ability to develop and cultivate professional working relationships within local area schools and community groups
  • Strong speaking and presentation skills
  • ‘Out of the box’ problem solving abilities
  • Next level organizational skills; the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously that brings together youth groups, NGOs, community organizations and the wider community.
  • Enthusiasm, patience, and passion

Bilingual candidates an asset. (English/ French/Arabic)

Ideal for Environmental Studies/Science, International Development, and other interdiciplinary students and graduates.
