Position: Wildlife Education Assistant
Type: volunteer opportunity
Organization: Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre
Location: Ottawa - West End, Ontario
The Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre has been educating people about wildlife and helping to foster an appreciation of the natural world for 30 years.
This is accomplished through a variety of Programs including School Presentations, Nature Discovery Workshops and working with communities in protecting wildlife and habitat in their neighbourhoods.
The Centre initially did rehabilitation for orphaned and injured wild mammals, ranging from flying squirrels to river otters. For the first 15 years, the Centre cared for approximately 1,200 animals annually as well as responded to 8,000 – 10,000 human/wildlife conflict calls each year.
In 2005 the Centre redirected its focus to Education and Outreach. Please visit out website, http://www.wildlifeinfo.ca for more information.
The Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre is currently looking for a volunteer to assist in the development of new Education Program components. The volunteer will work with the Centre’s staff to research and develop materials for various workshops and in helping to connect with potential audiences and book sessions.
Although the volunteer will work under the guidance of the Education Coordinator, and this will need to occur at the Wildlife Centre, they will also be welcome to work on the project away from the office.
