GARDENS Pod Project Volunteer Position
The GARDENS Pod Project is based on gardening and partnership model of mobile raised gardens (PODS) built on underutilized community/business land through-out Ward 6. The Garden Pods are set up and cared for by the Pod Planter Providers (residential or institutional/business pod volunteers). A portion of the produce grown is given back to the community, supporting the local food bank and other food-related programs in South Etobicoke. Our goal is to increase gardening activities leading to reduced emissions and addressing issues of food security.
This year, we have 14 Pod Providers across South Etobicoke. Some of the locations include the local library, children's centers, a community health centre, a college, small businesses and high schools. Check out more about our project at http://www.gardenslakeshore.ca or on our Instagram, twitter, or facebook.
We need volunteers to help us take care of our plants and in return, they will receive a small portion of the harvest before it is donated to the food bank. As a volunteer, you will benefit by getting a chance to work with the earth and by becoming a part of a community dedicated to increasing food security and gardening knowledge through free workshops and excursions.
No gardening experience is required to volunteer with us. We welcome everyone!
We are able to sign off on high school volunteer service hours.
Please see the locations of our pod site provider on our website and let us know where you would like to volunteer: Mimico, New Toronto, or Long branch (or if you’re able to help out in all 3!!)
