Do you have a passion for better cities? Do you want to help engage individuals in the conversation? In the new Future Cities Centre, Evergreen is launching a new exhibits program, along with a pilot Community Studio this fall. Through a series of activations and installations, this program will ignite conversation, accelerate ideas and demonstrate innovations that shape our cities for the better, for everyone. The Community Studio pop-up will pilot creative civic engagement approaches, supporting and connecting social innovators in collaborating and prototyping civic participation solutions, while inspiring and engaging residents and visitors in urban issues and the adjacent exhibits.

Exhibit Activators will be key to the success of the program. They will engage visitors in the exhibit, animate the pop-up and be empowered to build the experience of the studio, while providing logistical support. Working closely with the staff team and social innovators, they will draw participants in, help capture learnings and support daily logistics in this exciting new “playground” for innovation.

By joining the activator team, you will be helping to connect people and groups in building the flourishing cities of tomorrow, growing excitement, ideas and impact.

What you bring: You are committed, engaged, enthusiastic and optimistic. You bring a passion for engaging people with some awareness of issues and challenges in your city. You are a team player who can work independently. You are friendly and comfortable speaking with new people. Community engagement, creativity and exhibit experience are assets. You must be 19+ with strong English skills. We welcome diverse volunteers.

When & where: The exhibits and Community Studio will be in the TD Future Cities Centre at Evergreen Brick Works. Shifts will be primarily 4-5 hours on weekends (exhibit hours are 10-3), with some additional times for special events. Commit to at least 10 hours per month, for four months, flexible. Volunteers will attend a pre-studio orientation, date to be determined, along with additional team meetings every few months.

How we’ll support you: Volunteers will receive an orientation to Evergreen and the project with relevant training, on September 10 from 6 - 8 pm, or if you can't make that, on October 1. We want to build this team up quickly! You will get background materials, with ongoing support and direction from the team and other key staff. There will be regular team meetings and promotional material will be available to support outreach efforts.

Perks: You’ll be part of a dynamic project team of staff and volunteers working together with social innovators to test new approaches to civic engagement. You’ll be building your leadership and engagement skills and will learn about the planning and design process and effective community engagement. Evergreen T-shirt after 20 hours.
