Our 8-acre organic urban farm is looking for volunteers to support our Farm School program. Students from Kindergarten to High School come on field trips to the farm and take part in our agricultural and outdoor education programs. Join the team at Black Creek Community Farm (Jane & Steeles), get fully trained in our many hands-on, engaging programs, gain teaching experience and have fun while doing it!
Recent teacher graduate, OCT certified or working towards graduating
Have experience working with children in an outdoor setting
Have good organizational & communication skills
Punctual and professional
Passionate about: working outside, farming & growing food, sustainable agriculture, deepening children’s connection to the earth
Confidence to teach our programs to children from Kindergarten to Grade 8
Recent vulnerable sector screening required (paid for by us if you do not already have one)
Graduated from a related field (Education, Outdoor Education, Environmental Studies, etc.)
Have farming experience - growing vegetables, working with livestock, honey bees and/or vermicompost
Have outdoor education experience
Live in or have a strong knowledge of the Jane Finch community
Have experience working with racialized and diverse groups of people
Duties & Responsibilities:
Commit to the full 4- or 8-week internship program (part- & full-time positions available)
Lead engaging activities with groups of up to 15 students (K – Grade 8)
Assist with set-up & clean-up of activities
Be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions (cold, rain, sun, heat)
Able to lift up to 40lbs of soil, garden tools, etc.
Positions & Dates:
All interns will be required to attend a full day training on April 30th, 2018
Positions can be part or full time, priority will be given to those who have more availability
8 week internship from May to June – 1 position available
4 week internship for the month of May – 1 position available
4 week internship for the month of June – 1 position available
