Help support our public markets! In this role volunteers will bring our markets to life, connect with visitors, and facilitate spontaneous activations to make the site more exciting for visitors!
This role has two main responsibilities:
1) Market activators are responsible for helping to support (set-up, take-down and daily operation) our public markets on Saturdays and Sundays
2) Market Activators will also work together and with staff to help engage visitors through creating, guiding, and delivering spontaneous activities during down time!
This volunteer role is essential to keeping the market running smoothly and making Evergreen a more exciting destination on weekends. As a Market Activator, you are literally building connections between Torontonians and nature through the variety of local, seasonal, delicious foods we grow, cook and eat!

When and where: Evergreen’s outdoor public markets take place between May 6th and October 29th at Evergreen Brick Works (550 Bayview Ave) under the pavilions, rain or shine. Various 4-hour shifts are available on:
Volunteers must also attend Market Activator orientations on April 26th from 6-8pm and again on May 3rd from 6-8pm.
Commitment: A minimum 8 hours/ 2 shifts per month throughout the season.
How we'll support you: Evergreen will host two different orientations for Market Activators on April 26th and May 3rd from 6-8pm.
At the first orientation, volunteers will learn about Evergreen, their role as Market Activators, and then brainstorm about possible activities to develop. In the second orientation, volunteers and staff will work together to flesh out these ideas and compile this information in a resource book that volunteers will be able to turn to support leading activities.
Following the orientations, volunteers will receive ongoing support and training throughout their shifts from staff and other experienced volunteers. Evergreen also offers opportunities to attend skills-building sessions throughout the year.
