VOLUNTEER POSITION

Position: Social Media Volunteer
Organization: Transition Guelph
Location: Guelph, Ontario

Transition Guelph is a group of citizens coming together as volunteers to promote processes and projects for strengthening community resilience and economic vitality. We’re currently looking for a social media volunteer to support us in promoting our 2018 Resilience Festival.

Duties and Responsibilities

The social media volunteer will:

  • Develop a social media strategy for reaching members, community partners, sponsors and potential donors and keeping them informed about Festival events
  • Build and regularly maintain an active social media presence on major channels leading up to the Resilience Festival
  • Attend Festival events, post photos and report on Festival activities
  • Monitor social media activity and engage users by responding to and sharing posts

Qualifications

  • Experience using social media outlets
  • Experience with or passion for photography
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Outgoing, works well as part of a team
  • Shows good judgement and works well independently
  • Knowledge of environmental issues, community-building a bonus

Commitment

The Social Media Volunteer should be willing to commit to:

  • 5 hours per week in the weeks leading up to the Festival
  • Attending a variety of Festival events on March 22nd-25th and actively posting throughout the weekend

Benefits

This position provides hands-on experience for individuals interested in communications and marketing, particularly in the non-profit, environmental or community development sectors. The position would especially suit someone with a passion for environmental issues, sustainability, community and resilience. Volunteers have the opportunity to connect with others who care about sustainability while helping Transition Guelph reach its goal of promoting a healthier, more resilient community.
