Position: Community Outreach Volunteer Leader
Organization: Credit Valley Conservation

At this time, we are seeking to fill the position of: Community Outreach Volunteer Leader

Become a Volunteer Leader:

Do you enjoy being outside? Are you an environmentalist or naturalist at heart? Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) is looking for fun and community-driven individuals to assist staff at stewardship events throughout the year.

Job Description:

As a CVC Volunteer Leader, you will provide critical leadership at events, like tree plantings, invasive species removals, clean-ups, etc. You will play an important role by assisting CVC staff in the supervision of participants and delivery of event activities. Most events take place on Saturday mornings, with some events on weekdays.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • On-site event preparation and clean-up;
  • Greeting and guiding participants;
  • Providing demonstrations;
  • Maintaining quality control over planting techniques;
  • Advising and assisting participants;
  • Ensuring a safe work environment;
  • Taking photos and/or sharing the event on social media;
  • Encouraging a positive atmosphere!


  • 18 years of age or older;
  • Able to perform physical tasks (bending, lifting, carrying, twisting, etc.);
  • Past participation in at least one CVC Workday Event (tree planting, invasive species removal, electrofishing, etc.) or have a strong environmental background;
  • Interest in nature or the environmental sector;
  • Previous volunteer experience and/or working in a customer service role;
  • Desire to help out and gain leadership skills;
  • Enthusiasm for a healthier environment;
  • Feel confident in large groups and interacting with the public;
  • First aid training an asset;
  • Vulnerable sector screening required.

If interested in this position, there is a mandatory in-class training session on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm at CVC Head Office (1255 Old Derry Road, Mississauga). Further in-field training will take place at your first volunteer shift. Volunteers are required to attend at least four events during the year (two in the spring and two in the fall). Resume Required.


Training Provided:

  • Introduction to CVC;
  • Health and safety protocols and best practices;
  • On-site event management and leadership training;
  • Task-specific training;
  • Some at-home training required (approx. 3 hours) (online Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act training + review of CVC policies and procedures);
  • In-class training date is Tuesday, April 7, 2020 from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm and will take place at CVC’s Head Office (Mississauga).
