The Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC) is seeking candidates for our Board of Directors.

The BTC is one of the most active and experienced land trusts in Ontario, and one of the most trusted and recognized environmental charities in Canada, receiving highest rankings from Charity Intelligence Canada in 2021. We are tremendously proud of our accomplishments, and invite you to read about our progress in our 2021 Annual Impact Report.

If you have a passion for increasing the pace of conservation and responsibly connecting people to nature, and are interested in a volunteer leadership position in a top-rated charitable organization, please consider joining our Board of Directors.

About the Organization

The Bruce Trail Conservancy is one of Ontario’s largest land trusts and the steward of Canada’s longest marked footpath - the Bruce Trail. We are driven by a vision to secure the Bruce Trail within a permanently protected natural corridor along the Niagara Escarpment. We responsibly connect people to nature, and actively restore and care for land within the Niagara Escarpment UNESCO World Biosphere. We are a member-driven, volunteer-based, charitable organization, governed by a 19-member Board of Directors. Working with each of the nine Bruce Trail Clubs, we are committed to caring for the Bruce Trail and to preserving land along its route.

We value and welcome diversity and aim to be an accessible and inclusive community that honours, respects, and reflects the various ways people connect with the Bruce Trail and the Bruce Trail Conservancy.

BTC Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors, elected by our members, reflects a balance of ten core competencies that the Board has identified as key to good governance. In particular, the Board is placing priority on finding candidates with knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Fundraising
  • Conservation
  • Property acquisition and land management

We are committed to expanding the diversity of our board and creating an inclusive and equitable environment.

Board meetings are held a minimum of five times per year, usually the first Saturday of the month in September, December, February, April and June. Meetings may take place in person at our office in Dundas, via Zoom, or a hybrid of the two. Directors also typically participate on one or more Board committees.

For more information on the Bruce Trail Conservancy By-laws, nominations process, or core competencies, visit brucetrail.org/pages/board-of-directors . Any questions about the nominations process or the BTC Board of Directors may be directed to chair@brucetrail.org

To apply, submit a resume and cover letter to board@brucetrail.org by 5pm on June 22, 2022.
