The Ottawa Biosphere Eco-City Initiative (OBEC) is looking for two volunteer board members. Skills in administration, promotion or fundraising are desired. Tasks of the board are: strategic planning, finance, legal issues, and project approval. Board members may also lead committees such as Admin & HR, Information, Programming etc. New Canadians with board-related skills are welcome.
OBEC is an all-volunteer charitable organization working to create a culture of sustainability in Ottawa sustainable. This will positively influence government, business and citizen behaviour. To do this OBEC:
OBEC uses 10 Themes – Transportation, Energy, Design, Habitat, Food, Natural Capital, Waste, Health, Recreation, and Sense of Place – to stimulate actions for sustainability. It also employs four simple Tools – a Database of Sustainability Projects, Demonstration Projects, Sustainability Plans, and a Stakeholder Council to advance engagement. OBEC and its partners base projects on the Themes and Tools.
Individuals and organizations may join OBEC Council, with monthly open meetings to discuss issues and develop projects. An elected six-member Board governs the organization. Committees and teams manage operations. OBEC currently has about 20 active members and also includes non-members in its projects.
