Purpose

Do you have a background in marketing? Are you sustainability minded and looking to contribute your skills in creating thriving, resilient communities?

The Marketing Specialist is a key driving force in Sustainability Leadership’s external communication. The Marketing Specialist develops, executes and monitors marketing programs across a variety of channels. As a Marketing Specialist you would drive the written content and graphic design that promotes our brand and signature events, builds our organisation’s network, highlights climate action initiatives and identifies resources in the communities we serve.

Sustainability Leadership is a non-profit, social enterprise dedicated to empowering businesses to act and participate in creating a more sustainable future for their organisation, and for our communities. Our organisation accomplishes this through our membership program, events, learning content and digital resources.

Sustainability Leadership has been helping businesses become sustainable leaders in southern Ontario for over a decade! Our collective services have reduced over 245,000 tonnes of emissions from the local atmosphere and supported the implementation of over 200 sustainability projects!

Duties & Responsibilities.

Reporting to the Learning Coordinator, a Marketing Specialist will:

  • Develop marketing strategies and content calendars
  • Prepare Newsletter (ongoing - every 3 months minimum + as needed based on other current news/activities)
  • Develop and post creative content on our social media channels that promotes brand awareness, engages new audiences and attracts business professionals, exhibitors and sponsors to signature events (1 post per week)
  • Create marketing graphics and materials (primarily on Canva)
  • Develop social media captions
  • Record and evaluate social media analytics

Desired Skills

  • Passion for sustainability and social impact
  • Excellent communication, both oral and written
  • Strong time management and organisation skills with attention to detail
  • A self-starter who takes initiative
  • Experience or a strong desire to gain experience in marketing/communications, graphic design, journalism, event planning or a related field
  • Familiarity with creative software is an asset but not required; Canva, MailChimp and DaVinci Resolve
  • Comfortable using and publishing on social media and using G Suite apps

Other Requirements

  • Sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and Business Code of Conduct Agreement
  • Access to a computer and reliable internet access. Please note there will be no reimbursement for costs associated with internet access or technical issues with a computer

Time Commitment

  • One year commitment
  • 2-5 hours per week
  • Regular attendance and participation in:
    • Monthly organisational team meetings (second and fourth Monday of the month, 7-8pm)
    • Bi-weekly check-ins 1:1 with Learning Coordinator or as needed depending on project timelines

Training and Expectations

All volunteers receive general onboarding training which covers: Sustainability Leadership’s values and mission, programs and services, events schedule and overview of the volunteer program. The Learning Coordinator will provide further role-specific training such as guidance provided on the use of creative tools/software under Sustainability Leadership’s domain.

The Learning Coordinator will be available virtually during general business hours. Volunteers' activities are primarily conducted remotely, on their own time, with little supervision.

All volunteers are expected to conduct themselves according to our NDA and Business Code of Conduct and complete their commitment as disclosed within this description (under Time Commitment).

Location

Remote/Hybrid. The Marketing Specialist will receive a Sustainability Leadership email address and access to Google Drive, allowing them to complete volunteer tasks remotely.
