Position: Regenerative Food Security Program Coordinator
Organization: Ometepe Development Fund

Regenerative Food Security Program Coordinator

Since June of 2018, we have served over 10,000 meals to children, hosted recipe sharing days intended to inspire culinary creativity, to create nutritious, cost-efficient and economically regenerative farm-to-table foods. We've provided education in nutrition and small business economic skills. We've also secured a community Giving Garden, hosted 6 children's art and garden literacy days in which the children are inspired to be creative while learning about various locally grown foods and organic horticulture techniques.

Dates During the InanItah Fire Season
August 15, 2019 - February 15, 2020 (potentially longer, funding dependent)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Intermediate English and Spanish
  • High Value for Farm to Table Locally Sourced Foods
  • Ability to coordinate in the context of a culturally diverse environment
  • Willingness to honor program boundaries around local food sourcing
  • Ability to manage simple spreadsheets and do very basic accounting
  • Organized, Self Directed and Independently Resourceful
  • 3-month minimum placement

Helpful Skills, Experience and/or Education:

  • Childrens' Programming

Approximately 30/week.

About half of your time will be spent interning in the InanItah Local Foods kitchen, learning the skills and creativity needed to manage the ecologically regenerative culinary program.

The other half of your time will be spent with program coordination and management. The engages the community and serves between 60 - 300 meals each week depending on budget and demand. The program also sponsors educational events to empower Ometepe residents to create more affordable, nutritious meals with locally sourced foods. Duties include small event organization, collaborating with the Coordinator of the Giving Garden, sourcing locally has grown produce with local farmers and involving local mothers to support meals services for the children as well as bookkeeping and budget management and social media posts to support crowdfunding efforts.

We aim for a field of mutual support. We do our best to support you so that you can support us and the community. You are invited to live in the InanItah community during your stay. Camping, meals, yoga, meditation classes, use of the pool and hot tub are included as well as weekly cacao ceremonies.  If you would like to stay in a cabin it is possible to rent one.
