Positions: Volunteer Gardener
Project: Climate Smart Victory Garden
Location: Sharon, East Gwillimbury, near Newmarket, Ontario

Calling YOUth AgriVolunteers

The Foundation for Building Sustainable Communities (FBSC) is a United Nations accredited organization that supports local community food production. The Climate Smart Victory Garden is located in Sharon, Ontario (just North of Newmarket) and we are looking for some enthusiastic, motivated volunteers to help manage our garden for the 2021 season. There is no previous gardening experience required (although if you have it, we consider that to be an asset!), as long as you are interested in learning we are interested in teaching you!

Entering into our 6th operational season, we are always looking for dedicated people to take on a leadership role in our project. We are a dynamic team of individuals with diverse backgrounds and interests who come together to support our local community through this CSVG! If you like learning new skills and being part of a team, this is the job for you!

In this role you will:

  • Learn how to grow food for yourself and your family in a supported and friendly environment
  • Help to develop your people management skills, we are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to take on a leadership role (no pressure though if that’s not you!)
  • Improve communication skills as we navigate maintenance and watering schedules within the team during the realities of the current pandemic


Commitment: 5 hours/ week, May- October 2021


  • Assist with garden maintenance
  • Assist with facilitation of garden workshops and events
  • Attend regular garden team virtual meetings

Personal Suitability:

  • A strong team player
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Physically able to lift ~30lbs and use garden tools
  • Takes initiative and demonstrates integrity
  • Knowledge of plants/ gardening considered an asset

Job Requirements:

Anyone with an interest in learning how to garden and who wants to be involved in Climate Smart food production.
