Position: Green Collar Career Program Assistant - Internship

Relay Education (incorporated as TREC Charitable Foundation) is a national charity that delivers unique and engaging renewable energy education and environmental career programs for all ages. We seek to empower Canadians, especially youth, and encourage informed choices about our shared energy and natural resources. Our programs create a lasting impression on more than 15,000 individuals each year. As our programs enter their 15th year of delivery and our 9th year as a registered charity, we are seeking an experienced legal professional to join our Board of Directors and help us deliver our mission to educate and inspire individuals and communities in building a 100% renewable energy future.

As the Green Collar Career Program Assistant, you will be working closely with Relay’s Green Collar Career Officer in Ottawa. As this is an unpaid position, hours can be discussed and flexibility is allowed, but 20-40 hours a week over 12 weeks is expected.

Throughout the internship, you will mainly focus on furthering Relay’s Green Collar Career program. This program helps to connect youth (age 15-29) with mentorship, internship, and job-shadowing opportunities in the Ottawa area. You will help to reach out to, engage with, and maintain positive relationships with green businesses and industries in the Ottawa area. There are also other opportunities to develop skills of your choice among environmental education, advising and leadership, not-for profit leadership, communication (written and oral), writing a business plan, and completing research and surveys regarding business needs. You must be interested in learning about the different green businesses and interfaces in the community, bringing them together, and providing businesses with talented, ambitious youth. The successful candidate will benefit from being part of a growing non-for profit, being a key part in the development and delivery of our Green Collar Career program, and being exposed to many industries in the area.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience and/or education in business, environmental economics, sustainable development, environmental education or environmental studies
  • Be willing to contact and engage businesses about the program with no prior connection -Have great interpersonal skills
  • Be outgoing, positive, and engaging
  • Have great research and analytical skills
  • Have the ability to multitask and manage several partnerships at once
  • Help to maintain relationships throughout the entire program cycle
  • Experience with charities is considered an asset
  • Fluent in English and French preferable
