Folk Camp is an arts based intergenerational summer camp that offers participants a week long immersion into folk culture, song, craft, dance and cooking with a focus on sharing the riches of Eastern European heritage. The camp takes place on a campground in Grafton, Ontario. Folk Camp follows a typical arts camp program but with significant attention paid to cultural immersion and enrichment. There are workshops in arts such as fibre arts, woodworking, instrument building & playing, singing, traditional folk dancing, and more... Everybody shares in meals that are prepared by a dedicated team of cooks and kitchen volunteers who prepare traditional foods with guidance from some of the workshop leaders to complement the theme of the evening programs. These themes are usually cultural, such as a Ukrainian wedding, Georgian supra (feast), orFrancophone evening (French-Canadian or Cajun dinner and dance).
Volunteers are an integral part of the Folk Camp family. We couldn't do it without them! Consider joining our volunteer team.
Volunteers help with the daily preparation of the meals and snacks, and help with additional bits and pieces that make all of camp run smoothly. It is a wonderful opportunity to be part of a team that serves up the most delicious and wholesome food to a very grateful group of campers. Perks include working and learning under the guidance of our gracious and talented head cooks, working with seasonal local produce, and being immersed in village life for a whole week. You will be able to step out of the kitchen on occasion to take in the peaceful natural surroundings, and will have time to participate in the evening programs.
*Previous kitchen experience is required.*
