Mohawk Seedkeeper Garden is an indigenous garden project. We seek to share the traditional knowledge of Mohawk Seedkeeper Terrylynn Brant with the community. This garden is located on the Six Nations Reserve which is Canada's largest populated Haudenosaunee community in Canada with 12,000 on reserve residents. Like all indigenous communities local food availability is a problem. There are no grocery stores in this community and residents drive to town to purchase foods that are causing great illnesses such as diabetes to be epidemic levels. Mohawk Seedkeeper Garden is in year 3 of its development. We are trying to grow indigenous seeds only from the Mohawk Nation. We hope to get to a level where we will operate a community garden, and community kitchen to revitalize our ancestral food sources and preparations. Many of the seeds we grow were nearly lost to our community.
We are looking for individuals who would like to volunteer in the gardens and help to establish food forests and try their hand at foraging wild foods which are still abundant in this rural community. Volunteers would be expected to respect and adhere to local ceremonial garden practices and be willing to participate in ceremony if asked. This is a part time, full time or occasional commitment.
Anyone interested in volunteering contact Terrylynn Brant by email at:

Rough camping could be offered but you must understand you are a guest of an indigenous community and will be taught about appropriate community behaviours. This is an alcohol and drug free opportunity.
