Position: EcoFair at the Barns Organizing Committee Member
Organization: Transition Toronto
Location: Toronto, Ontario
To apply: email expressing your desire and qualifications for joining the committee

EcoFair at the Barns is a fun, family oriented event that informs and inspires people to make greener choices in their homes and communities. Last year, over 1,000 people came out to learn about green initiatives and achievements in our neighbourhood and in our city, to explore new ideas, and to share green tips and tricks. See a video overview of the event. This year the event will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2020.

The EcoFair is organized by a team of enthusiastic volunteers from Green Neighbours 21 and Transition Toronto. Transition Toronto is looking for someone to join our friendly and committed team of volunteers on the EcoFair's Organizing Committee.

Having been running for over 11 years, the EcoFair at the Barns has a well documented organizational process, with steps to be taken in each month of the year. Following the process distributes the work throughout the year so that organization can happen at a relaxed pace and not result in too much time commitment for the organizing committee or other volunteers. The first task of a new Transition Toronto EcoFair Organizing Committee Member would be to attend the upcoming Organizing Committee meeting and review the organizational process. From there, the new Organizing Committee Member would volunteer for tasks to help the Committee ensure that the process is being implemented. Some examples tasks might be:

  • write articles and press release about the event
  • contact and liaise with media outlets
  • regularly post content to social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and send periodic e-newsletters
  • contact potential vendors and organizations who may be interested in displaying at the EcoFair

Time commitment:

  • Attendance and participation in the monthly organizing committee meetings (one weeknight per month from June to December)
  • Carry out role in-between meetings – a few hours per week beginning in June
  • Attendance at the event on Sunday, November 1, 2020

  • Make a difference – through your efforts continue the excellent and impactful tradition of the EcoFair at the Barns, attract more people to the event who will learn about how to make eco-friendly changes in their lives, and contribute to Toronto's green culture
  • Meet new people who share similar interests
  • Apply your skills to a grassroots, not-for-profit event
