Position: Site Assessment Volunteer
Organization: Credit Valley Conservation

At this time, we are seeking to fill the position of: Volunteer Position: Site Assessment Volunteer.

Become a Site Assessment Volunteer:

Are you interested in learning how to engage youth and the community in environmental stewardship and restoration projects? Do you love spending time outside? Do you want to learn about local flora and how to asses restoration projects like native plantings across the Credit River watershed? If so, then join Credit Valley Conservation’s (CVC) Community Outreach team this spring as a volunteer!

(One position available)

Multiple locations within the Credit River Watershed (Orangeville, Halton Hills, Erin, Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga)

APPROXIMATE TIME COMMITMENT: 10 – 15 hours/week, between the hours of 7:30am – 3:30pm, Monday – Friday and the occasional Saturday morning (8:00am – 12:30pm).

START DATE: Mid to late April

END DATE: End of June

Eligibility Requirements

  • An interest in environmental stewardship and restoration work;
  • Some experience or interest in working outside with native plants;
  • Some experience or interest writing reports, keeping track of details, etc.;
  • Willingness to learn;
  • Willingness to work outside in adverse weather conditions;
  • Able to perform physical tasks (bending, lifting, carrying, twisting, etc.);
  • An ability to work independently and in a close knit team environment;
  • Demonstrated reliability and leadership qualities;
  • Valid driver’s license with regular access to a vehicle is considered an asset;
  • First-aid certification considered an asset.

Summary of Major Tasks

The Site Assessment Volunteer will support all areas of CVC’s Community Outreach programs. They will spend the majority of their time helping assess past native tree and shrub restoration projects across the watershed and assisting with data collection in the field. They may also provide event support for other aspects of our corporate, community and youth programs as required.

  • Conduct site visits with CVC staff;
  • Assist with site assessment and maintenance like pruning, weeding, watering and monitoring of past and present planting sites across the Credit River watershed;
  • Support monitoring of short-term and long-term progress of site projects;
  • Assist with entering project data into databases;
  • Load, prepare, and maintain program equipment and materials;
  • Act as an ambassador for CVC programs to youth and community volunteers;
  • With other CVC staff or program partners, help at tree planting, invasive species removal, stream rehabilitation, and other “eco-experiences” in an inspiring manner to create a positive experience for program participants and volunteers;
  • Provide leadership and motivation for youth and community volunteers while ensuring a safe and positive work environment;
  • Follow daily schedules and maintain daily activity logs and program administration;
  • Provide support to other Community Outreach staff and volunteers;
  • Other duties and projects as appropriate to the position.


  • General CVC and Health and Safety;
  • In the field, job specific training;
  • Some at-home training required (approx. 3 hours) (online AODA training + review of CVC policies and procedures).

Additional Information


  • All training will be provided;
  • Develop native plant identification skills;
