Positions: Nature Kids Chapter Leaders

Nature Alberta is searching for enthusiastic volunteers to establish and lead Nature Kids Chapters in Medicine Hat, Lethbirdge, and Calgary. The Nature Kids program connects young families to nature and inspires the next generation of naturalists. Nature Alberta is a strong voice and active champion for the greater appreciation and conservation of nature in Alberta and serves as the central hub for nature clubs across the province.

As a Nature Kids Chapter Leader, you play a critical role in helping us deliver the Nature Kids program. You are an important role model who shares your enthusiasm, knowledge, and passion for nature with families of all ages. You also demonstrate appropriate outdoor etiquette and are keen to show people how to have fun outside. This program requires delivery of both virtual materials and in-person events (as restrictions permit), so adaptability and creativity are an asset.

With support from Nature Alberta, a Nature Kids Chapter Leader is responsible for:

  • Nature Kids Chapter participant recruitment and management
  • Communicating regularly with your Chapter’s family members.
  • Facilitate within your Chapter the use of Nature Alberta publications such as our quarterly Nature Alberta Magazine and the Nature Heroes
  • Encouraging families to engage with nature by facilitating the Adopt a Spot initiative.
  • Promoting other Nature Alberta events within your Chapter.
  • Participate in professional development and training sessions organized by Nature Alberta.
  • Communicate routinely with Nature Alberta and submit regular reports detailing your Chapter’s activities and participant numbers.

  • Funds for program supplies (ex. Snowshoe rental fees, participant giveaways, etc.)
  • A small honorarium may be available, dependent on available funding


  • Must have access to reliable transportation and a computer with internet connectivity.


  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Experience organizing and/or running programs and events for children and families
  • Knowledge of local flora and fauna

Time Commitment: Approximately 15 hours per month.
