Examples of internal communications include:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Has a knack for creativity

The Ottawa Biosphere Eco-City Initiative (OBEC) is an all-volunteer charitable organization working to make Ottawa sustainable by

1. Engaging people,

2. Promoting stakeholder cooperation, and

3. Sharing information on sustainability.

It uses 10 Themes of Sustainability (Transportation, Energy, Design, Habitat, Food, Natural Capital, Waste, Health, Recreation, and Sense of Place) and four simple Tools (Council of Stakeholders, Database of Projects, Sustainability Plans and Demonstration Projects). This is explained on the website.

An elected six-member Board governs the organization. All members belong to the OBEC Council, which has monthly open meetings. Organizational Committees led by Board members manage broad areas, such as Administration & Human Resources, or Information. In so doing, they guide Teams of members. There are also teams set up to carryout projects. OBEC currently has about 20 active members who participate in Board, Council or Committee/Team meetings.

In 2013 OBEC led 60+ volunteers to create the self-guided Ottawa Sustainability Tour. In 2015-2016, OBEC trained over 60 high schools students to lead four schools in the development of sustainability plans. Other projects are under development.
