Positions: Team Members  (volunteer)
Organization: Grayscale Sustainability
Location: local candidates preferred (Hamilton, Ontario), but anyone in Canada/ worldwide is encouraged to apply as long as they are fluent in English

Grayscale Sustainability is an emerging project that aims to facilitate transitioning to a more sustainable and socially conscious lifestyle by giving people the knowledge and, therefore, the empowerment they need to contribute to any of the different solutions to climate change. We are a not-for-profit led by volunteers in partnership with Youth Climate International.

Grayscale Sustainability requires new members to grow the project and make a more meaningful impact. Applicants do not need to have any sort of experience or being pursuing related studies. The hope is that project team members will stay with the project for multiple years so that experience can be developed and passed on to other team members.

Team member duties can include development of strategic objectives and planning, coordination and logistics, data processing and reporting, volunteer coordination, communications, doing research, IT support, project process improvement, marketing, social media work, interacting with local and international groups of people, directing virtual or in-person seminars and other tasks required to deliver the project. No single team member will be responsible for all these project areas all at once.


  • Coordination with the team and connecting to virtual meetings once or twice per month.
  • Reporting progress to the team before deadlines.
  • During the first phase of the project, choosing common products or activities and researching sustainable alternatives to them.
  • Creating summaries and infographics based on the research done.
  • Explaining research to other members of the team.
  • Engaging others and working from an intersectional perspective.


  • Giving people simple comparison maps with alternative options.
  • Empowering people to contribute to any of the different solutions to climate change.
  • Effective marketing of the Grayscale Sustainability project.
  • Smooth project operation and delivery.
  • Effective volunteer organization.
  • Team building.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Being fluent in English.
  • Being interested in climate action.
  • Enough time available to commit to the project.
  • Commitment to project success.
  • Reliability in completing tasks accepted.
  • Commitment to and respect for diversity.
