Board Secretary

The Calgary Horticultural Society is seeking outstanding individuals in the Calgary region to serve on the Board of Directors for our organization. As one of the oldest charitable organizations in Calgary, the Society has served the community well in educating and promoting gardening in our challenging climate.

DIRECTOR POSITION OPENING:

The Board of Directors for the Calgary Horticultural Society has a vacancy for the executive position of Secretary.This volunteer role requires a minimum two-year term commitment as well as availability for approximately ten hours per month to attend meetings and work on various board subcommittees. Applicants must have previous experience in an ddminstrative role, be familiar with word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software. Support for our mission and organizational goals is key. The Secretary is responsible for all record-keeping of Board business including the Minute Book, preparing agendas, taking and distributing meeting minutes, and serves as a full voting member of the Board.

ABOUT THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

On behalf of the Society’s members, the Calgary Horticultural Society Board of Directors is responsible for the governance and financial accountability of the organization. The Board ensures the Society adheres to its mandate through providing effective strategic direction, and guidance and oversight of the Executive Director. Additionally, Board members are expected to advocate for the Society within the community and to be good ambassadors on behalf of the organization and its members, staff and volunteers.
