VOLUNTEER POSITION

Position: Director at Large
Organization: High Park Nature Centre (as High Park Initiatives)

The High Park Nature Centre is seeking a volunteer with experience and demonstrated expertise within the Not-For-Profit, governmental or environmental education sectors as a Director at Large.

The High Park Nature Centre is a registered charitable organization that promotes awareness and respect for nature through outdoor environmental education and park stewardship. Nature Centre programs inspire a sense of wonder, knowledge and respect for High Park’s unique natural systems; restore human connections to local plants and animals; and engage participants of all ages in ecological restoration activities to ensure a sustainable future for High Park for generations to come. We are seeking a Director at Large who will contribute to the Nature Centre Board by:

  • attending monthly meetings and providing advice, budgetary and strategic direction for the short and long term growth of the Nature Centre;
  • providing specialized expertise such as legal, membership and event management, marketing & communications, heritage building renovation, government and stakeholder relations, etc. ; and
  • participate in Board strategic and capital campaign planning.

Commitment:

  • Ongoing (ideally a 3-year term)
  • 12 Board meetings per year, once a month in the evening
  • Provide advice to Executive Director if/when appropriate
  • Roughly total of 7-10 hours per month

A Police Record Check is required. Previous Board experience is preferred.
