Join Our Board of Directors
Willow Park Ecology Centre, Norval is a unique nature space and we are now seeking a few passionate nature lovers to join our Board of Directors.
We are a citizens' group that, over the past nineteen years, has restored, maintained and shared a now-beautiful, biodiverse natural site at the confluence of the Credit River and its tributary Silver Creek. We and our local nature have benefited from working in partnership with the Town of Halton Hills, with the Credit Valley Conservation authority, with local businesses, grant-making organizations, and with volunteers of all ages.
Willow Park has become not only a much-respected model of ecological restoration on public land, but also a busy centre for educational activities, cultural exploration, and community cooperation.
Our work in naturalization and habitat restoration has allowed thousands of people to become involved in hands-on care for and learning about what's needed to keep local nature healthy. Our committed, talented volunteers have created and maintained trails, a wetland and pond, an observation boardwalk, a pollinator garden, a xeriscaped area, a restored native forest area, a pavilion shelter, toolsheds, a composting centre and work/learn area.
The park is open year-round, and we run seasonal events as well as formal educational activities designed to get school children outdoors and learning in the natural world. We have mentorship programs for teen volunteers and weekend volunteering for adult involvement.
We are looking for people who care about a sustainable future and can help us grow our ability to provide demonstration, education, and nature connection in our community and within our wider watershed. Previous non-profit board experience and or/professional skills (communication, outreach and social media management, fundraising and business development, education and community programming, conservation projects, event planning) are welcome but not essential. At the present time we would particularly welcome people who can help us develop a sponsorship program , do outreach, help oversee projects and their deliverables, plan and run events and programs, actively engage with people in the community and in the park.
The Willow Park board of directors is a volunteer board that meets monthly in Georgetown or Acton, with additional meetings as deemed necessary for operational workgroups and project-oriented activities. You may wish to refer to our website for more information willowparkecology.ca
