Positions: Board Member, various positions (see below)
Type: board of directors / unpaid
Organization: The Amelia Foundation
Location: anywhere in Canada

Who we are:

The Amelia Foundation was created to provide healthcare to the companion animals of people experiencing homelessness. It is estimated that a quarter of people experiencing homelessness have a companion animal, most commonly dogs. Studies that have looked at this relationship have determined that having a companion animal provides friendship and responsibility, and significantly contributes to emotional wellbeing. Since people experiencing homelessness treasure their companion animals, they tend to prioritize them, which can sometimes come at a cost. Most shelters do not allow non-human animals, so those experiencing homelessness alongside their companion animals spend more time outside living on the streets. As the companion animals and their humans spend so much time together, the animal becomes very attached. This makes it difficult to go to job interviews, go grocery shopping, visit rental apartments, etc. The Amelia Foundation believes that healthcare is best when it is holistic; we want to provide not only medical care to companion animals of those experiencing homelessness, but also act as a bridge between the people experiencing homelessness and their companion animals and all of the resources that have become barriers for them.

Who we are looking for:

We need more visionaries who care deeply about the wellbeing of companion animals and have skillsets that would be beneficial to our board. We value excellent communication skills, networking abilities, fearlessness and collaboration. We also use Google suite and Slack, thus experience in those platforms is preferred. Experience caring for animals is an asset. We would also prefer experience with non-profit organizations.

Currently, the following positions are in high demand: volunteer lawyers, accountants, veterinarians or veterinary technicians, marketing advisors. However, we welcome any and all sources of knowledge and expertise.

We are a fast paced, high-energy non-profit with big dreams and big plans to achieve them. We believe that surrounding yourself with productive people will increase your own productivity, so if you’re looking to add that extra motivation in your life, join us! We hold weekly meetings every Tuesday at 7pm, however we also have a Friday daytime slot in case some individuals are unable to make it on Tuesdays.

The application process:

Once we have heard from you, we will connect you with a member of our board who will hold an interview session with you. Then, we will contact you within a week to let you know if you will be joining us. The whole process should take no more than a week, as we value your time and believe in punctuality and efficiency.

How to apply:

Send your resumé to: . In the heading, please input: TAF Board Member Application. If you have a companion animal (or more than one!), we would love a picture and a description of your relationship with them! If you don’t have a companion animal, send us a picture of a non-human animal that brings you joy! We would prefer a cover letter as well, but it is not mandatory.
