VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Position: Bike to Work Week Volunteers
Organization: HUB Cycling
Location: Vancouver, BC

About HUB Cycling

HUB Cycling is a charitable non-profit organization, established to improve cycling conditions in Metro Vancouver. We strive to remove barriers to cycling and improve the quality of our communities, our health, the environment, and local economies. We make cycling better through education, action, and events.

About Bike to Work Week

Bike to Work Week is a twice annual competition and celebration of cycling for transportation, engaging hundreds of workplaces and individuals to ride to work. Throughout the week, HUB hosts motivational Celebration Stations on high-traffic bike paths where cyclists can stop on their morning or afternoon commute for coffee, snacks, bike tuning from volunteering mechanics and daily draws for prizes. Participants are encouraged to sign up and log their trips online - even regular cyclists should register and log their trips as this helps us show the importance of cycling growth when we push for cycling improvements (it also increases the likelihood that colleagues will join). The spring event is taking place May 28th - June 3th, all over Metro Vancouver, along bike routes, in workplaces, and online. The goal of the event is to increase the health, sustainability and livability of Metro Vancouver through active transportation and team building.

Volunteer with HUB for Bike to Work Week

HUB is currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help at Celebration Stations across Metro Vancouver. Celebration stations provide people on bikes with route information, maps, snacks, mechanic services and the chance to win amazing prizes. Bike to Work Week Stations are held in the mornings, around lunch time and in the afternoons across Metro Vancouver. Volunteer shifts at celebration stations are 3-4 hours. Volunteers are vital to HUB and the success of Bike to Work Week!

Volunteer roles and duties can include the following:

  • Set-up and take-down

  • Counting Cyclists (passing by and stopping)

  • Cheering and inviting people to stop at the station for free snacks, food and tune-ups

  • Managing the food and drink table

  • Helping with HUB stuff (raising awareness of HUB programming, selling memberships & t-shirts, helping with trip planning, etc.)

  • Encouraging people to sign up and log their trips during Bike to Work Week, if they haven’t already, giving out Bike to Work Week cards so they know where to sign up.

  • Answering questions about cycling in general or forwarding people to resources

  • Taking photos! (especially sponsorship materials and banners)
