Positions: EcoFair Video & Web Lead, Support

Who we are?

Green Neighbours Network of Toronto (GNN) is a grassroots community network of people and groups working to make Toronto greener, healthier, and more sustainable. https://greenneighboursnetwork.ca/

EcoFair Toronto will be GNN’s premiere outreach event of the year. It is a 100% volunteer driven eco community outreach event. The goal of the EcoFair is to inspire and inform participants about the many achievable ways everyone can live healthier, more sustainably lives. Previous EcoFairs were held at Artscape Wychwood Barns and attracted up to 1700 attendees. https://ecofairtoronto.org/

Because of COVID-19, the EcoFair will be an online event for the first time this year. Events will include interactive and engaging programming for all ages, utilizing online functions to celebrate success, educate, and inspire the community. A series of online events will be held between October 15 and November 8 2020.


Position 1: EcoFair Video & Web Lead

Role Description

We are seeking an organized, friendly, reliable team player to be the Video and Web Lead for the EcoFair’s online events.

Tasks

  • Set up Zoom rooms and live stream them to YouTube & create shareable links to the events
  • Create and manage polls and breakouts for attendees during events
  • Virtual coaching for set up/lighting/framing/audio with everyone presenting at online events
  • Assist presenters by displaying videos or powerpoints, when needed, during their presentation
  • Troubleshoot audio/video issues that may arise during events
  • Coach volunteers monitoring chats and acting as moderators in preparation for events
  • Basic editing and exporting video as needed for social media after events
  • Uploading video to YouTube, Facebook or other hosting platforms after events

Preferred Skills

  • Comfortable setting up audio/video equipment
  • Familiarity with online video platforms such as Zoom, YouTube
  • Comfortable troubleshooting if technical issues arise during events
  • Must have a positive attitude, be willing to coach others, and be a great team player
  • Have a passion for the environment and community-building

Outcomes

  • Seamless technical execution of online events
  • Beneficial interactive dialogue between participants and exhibitors
  • Social Media cuts from longer recorded videos - with closed captions - designed for “sound-off”
  • Help all EcoFair volunteers, event participants, and presenters have a great experience

Orientation

The Video and Web Lead will work closely with the volunteer EcoFair Social Media Team, EcoFair Planning Team, and GNN Steering Committee Members. Working together as a team, all volunteers will provide direction, supervision, training and feedback.

Time Commitment

  • Work independently approx. 4-8 hours per week on a flexible schedule (Sept - Dec)
  • Technical support for up to twelve online EcoFair events Oct 15 - Nov 8 (approx. 3 hours per event happening on Thursday evenings (7-9pm) or weekend afternoons (2-4pm))
  • Able to attend 1-hour practice runs for the events you will lead
  • Participate in a short debrief after each event you supported

Position 2: EcoFair Video & Web Support

Role Description

We are seeking organized, friendly, reliable team players to be Video and Web Support for the EcoFair’s online events.

Tasks

  • Assist in managing the administrative side of Zoom and YouTube events (e.g. managing the waiting room)
  • Monitor the live chat during events for questions from attendees and relay them to the exhibitors presenting
  • Ensure that the live chat remains a respectful environment (i.e. delete inappropriate comments, post reminders about expected conduct etc.)
  • Post applicable links to resources in the chat, when needed
  • Provide support in breakout rooms on Zoom
  • Attend practice runs for each event you will be supporting and debriefs after the event
  • Flag any audio, visual or chat related issues that you notice during events and troubleshoot where possible

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity navigating online video platforms such as Zoom & YouTube
  • Comfortable troubleshooting if minor technical issues arise during events
  • Must have a positive attitude, be willing to coach others, and be a great team player
