Camp Amy Molson (C.A.M.) is a non-profit sleepover camp for inner-city Montreal children, aged 5 to 13 years old, located in the beautiful foothills of the Laurentians in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Quebec, an hour west of Montreal. Our camp is one of the most affordable in the province due to our sliding scale. Our mission is to provide children with a happy, outdoor experience where campers can build self-esteem, form positive relationships and develop healthy habits.
CAM’s Farm Program (Young Roots Farm) helps youth develop healthy relationships with nature while producing food (vegetables, eggs, mushrooms) on our small acreage mixed ecosystem farm. We use food production, youth entrepreneurship and ecological construction as the basis for engaging with a wide range of youth. We seek to integrate the unique elements of our site (forests, creeks, summer camp facilities, energy and waste of 200+ people, poultry, garden etc.) in a thoughtful and permaculture-inspired way to explore and inspire alternatives to the wasteful and exploitative economic practices that surround us.
The Entrepreneurship Coordinator:
We are seeking someone with entrepreneurial ideas and energy for working with plants, young people and social media. The farm team (Farm Director, Farm Educator, Marketing Apprentice, and Farm Apprentice) works together throughout the year to run the farm and deliver meaningful environmental programming. The Marketing Apprentice will focus on developing the entrepreneurial side of our program, especially developing our farm-grown, youth-run pesto business, managing our internet presence and helping our participants develop their entrepreneurial spirit. In addition, you will learn to help run the farm (seeding, wheelbarrowing, watering, weeding, putting up fences, greenhouse work etc.). Our goal is for the youth from our camp to turn this project (with your guidance) into a successful business that meets the triple bottom line: benefiting our communities, our environment, and making a healthy profit!
Work during May and June will involve developing a business and social media plan for the entrepreneurial side of the farm as well as a significant amount of spring preparation farm work. During the main camp season (June 23 - Aug 18) the workload will shift towards helping youth learn about the multiple aspects of running the farm businesses, delivering programming to campers 5-13 years old, and summer camp supervision duties. After the main camp season, focus will shift towards bringing produce to markets and continuing the production and sales of pesto in the city. Availability after Aug. 18 is flexible as full-time or part-time.
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
Working with the Farm Director to develop the CAMPesto brand (jars, labelling, mentoring, production, marketing etc.) to increase sales and increase the impact with young entrepreneurs
Structuring entrepreneurial projects to facilitate working with youth of different ages (10-15 years old), teaching (or learning together) the multiple facets of growing and processing food and running a business.
Working with the rest of the farm team to grow food (building greenhouses, seeding, weeding, harvesting, transplanting, composting etc.)
Working with the rest of the team in delivering environmental programming to youth from 5-13 years old
Managing our Young Roots Farm social media presence (FB, IG, etc.) to help us realise our goals
Working with the Farm Director to manage our weekly vegetable basket pick-up
Researching and developing other marketable products to increase our revenues
Assisting in other aspects of camp life (carnival days, evening program, keeping the peace in the dining hall).
Coordinating and working markets after summer camp season to sell pesto and other produce in Montreal (flexible upon availability).
We are seeking candidates with:
A passion for food, working with children and youth, and social entrepreneurship.
A facility with social media and marketing.
Energy, enthusiasm, and sensitivity for working with children from different backgrounds.
Adaptability to the fluid demands of farming and working with youth.
Strong leadership skills.
Good business and entrepreneurial instincts.
Ability to work in physically demanding conditions (rain, cold, bugs).
Ability to deal with rustic living conditions.
Fluency in English. Fluency in French also an asset.
A valid Quebec drivers license is an asset.

Funding for this job is provided by Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible, you must be a secondary or post-secondary student and returning to school in the fall. Pay is minimum wage ($12/hr) for 40 hours/week for 16 weeks.
