Hiring: Project Leaders (National Experience Program)
Projects: Katimavik National Experience
Location: one of Katimavik's project communities across the country

Term & Salary: One-year contract, all contracts renew for one year in June, 40-hour work week. The salary is $34,000 per year and Katimavik will cover living expenses (rent, utilities, travel at the beginning and end of the project)

Katimavik is looking for open-minded, resourceful individuals to lead youth development groups. This challenging and rewarding position provides leadership for up to 11 youth at a time, guiding them through an intense six-month experience of volunteerism, learning, discovery, growth, and accountability. The Project Leader resides in-house with the group.

WHO ARE WE?

Since 1977, Katimavik has been facilitating youth development initiatives across Canada. Our approach is based on developing long-term, mutually beneficial relationships between youth volunteers and local communities. Our programs aim to provide hands-on learning opportunities that enable youth to develop social and professional skills that will help them thrive in today's

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Oversee the continuous development and program activities of a group of 11 youth.
  • Build strong community partnerships.
  • Use Katimavik's competency-based learning modules, tools, and resources to facilitate group learning.
  • Lead group discussions, activities, and reflection exercises.
  • Foster meaningful partnerships with local Indigenous communities and organizations to facilitate Truth and Reconciliation learning and activities.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • Previous leadership experience working directly with youth and/or groups.
  • Experience in crisis management and the personal judgment to identify and refer youth with high-risk behaviours to the appropriate support.
  • A strong understanding of equity issues, and the ability to support youth from historically under-serviced communities, including Indigenous, newcomer, and 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
  • An open-minded and respectful character that embraces diversity and adapts to competing needs and interests.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English, and the ability to communicate in both official languages.
  • The ability to manage a house and the house inventory, manage a budget, and perform various administrative duties.
  • A driver's license is required.
  • A positive and fun attitude.
