The Arctic Chalet is a beautifully landscaped eco-friendly, non-smoking tourist establishment located in the Canadian Arctic on the outskirts of Inuvik, Northwest Territories. We provide beautiful cabin accommodations and eco-friendly adventure tours above the Arctic circle.
We are looking for one or two healthy, PHYSICALLY FIT people who love dogs and who would enjoy working at the Arctic Chalet this summer. This position is open for anytime during the summer months and involves helping take care of our 36 beautiful white huskies and performing housekeeping or yard duties for our tourist accommodation and tour business.
We provide free room and board to each volunteer. Each person gets his or her own private bedroom with heat and electricity. Bathrooms and a staff kitchen are separate but easy to access. Staff also have access to our laundry facility. Transportation to town once a week for groceries is provided. Each staff member prepares his/her own meals in our fully-equiped staff kitchen. A limited amount of WIFI is also available for communication with family and friends.
Our employees and volunteers learn many new skills such as driving ATVs, on tours and on training runs. The experience working with our huskies is the real highlight of this northern Arctic experience!
We run a split schedule between working with the dogs and doing other chores, and the schedule can vary from day to day requiring flexibility.
Kennel duties include feeding, watering, cleaning dog pens and doing other jobs that involve dog care and training. In summer we use 4-wheeler ATVs for training and for short tours. We are looking for people who are good with animals and can relate well to them.
We work 6 days per week with one day off usually on Saturdays. On Saturdays staff alternate for a short visit to the dog kennels. You can have a look at our work schedule posted on the VOLUNTEER page of our web site.
As we live in a natural environment we hire staff who are interested in spending time out in nature. We do an awesome staff hike in the Richardson mountains every summer and staff enjoy canoeing and fishing right here from the propertyf. There are many hiking trails right from our property.
Because of the clientele that we serve we require staff members to be clean, neat and tidy in their personal appearance to meet our conservative company standards. We are a non-smoking/non-drinking and a drug-free establishment and our employees adhere to that policy. They must have no inappropriate or large tattoos, or unusual body piercings or unnatural hair colours or stiles.
If you are adventurous, have a passion for dogs, love nature, enjoy being outside, have a happy attitude and are not afraid of hard work, this opportunity may be perfect for you. You will be included in some of our tours whenever possible. We will try to give you the absolute best Arctic experience in exchange for your helpful efforts!
We look forward to meeting you and having you join our big happy family in the Arctic! That includes all of our white furry family members.
