Positions: Ancient Forest Alliance Canvasser
Organization: Ancient Forest Alliance
Location: Victoria / Greater Victoria, BC

Do you love nature? Like talking with people? Looking for an entry-level opportunity in a great environmental organization? You have found the right place at the Ancient Forest Alliance!

As a canvasser for the protection of BC’s ancient rainforests, you will learn about environmental conservation and climate change issues, while also gaining the skills to communicate these issues to the public. You will gain excellent customer service skills that will compliment any career path. Specifically within the environmental field, you will gain recognition that you have real world experience and a dedication to push for change on important ecological problems, positioning yourself to stand out above the rest.

You will be a part of a team of dedicated environmentalists where you will build new connections and friendships. The team will also gain a chance to join in on field trips to threatened old growth forests to see first hand what is at stake with the continued clearcutting of BC’s endangered and majestic forests.

From a Covid perspective, we take health and safety very seriously. We have well thought out policies to make this already safe outdoor work even safer. In following the advice of the BC Centre for Disease Control: “Getting together outside, with lots of space between you, is the safest way to visit with people outside of your social group”.

As you empower more members of the public to take part in protecting BC’s endangered ancient rainforests, you are sure to make a real difference in conserving our globally rare giant old growth forests. You will also be a part of transitioning to a sustainable second growth logging industry that upholds the ecological importance of the small amount of giant old growth forests remaining, which are on track to be cut down.

The most important thing we are looking for in canvassers is a passion for environmental causes, and especially a connection to our forests. The other skills required of a canvasser will fall into place through the support and mentorship you will receive from our dedicated team.

Overview of the job:

  • Develop valuable community outreach and verbal communication skills that can be transferred into a multitude of career paths.
  • Learn about BC's endangered old growth forests and our campaigns to protect them.
  • Work with a fun, supportive team of like minded environmentalists.
  • Earn a living wage while doing work that matters!
  • Flexible schedule, part time or full time canvassing (up to 25 hours per week), paid training and performance based income.
  • No transportation required (Canvassing routes are located within Victoria, Oak Bay, Central and South Saanich).

If you have a passion for nature and you enjoy talking to the public, then we want to hear from you!
