Position: WildSafe BC Program Coordinator

WildSafeBC is the provincial leader in preventing conflict with wildlife through collaboration, education and community solutions. The program is delivered by the registered non-profit the BC Conservation Foundation and our motto is “keeping wildlife wild and communities safe”.

WildSafeBC delivers on its mission by partnering with local communities to hire local, part-time coordinators from April/May to November each year. Provincial staff provide project administration, staff training and supervision, and support to communities in achieving their goals of reducing human-wildlife conflicts. WildSafeBC also delivers programs provincial in scope such, as social media campaigns, bear-resistant product testing (in partnership with the BC Wildlife Park), the Wildlife Alert Reporting Program (WARP) and other special initiatives and pilots. WildSafeBC relies on the generous support and funding of our partners to allow us to develop and implement these programs.

About the position

The role of the Program Coordinator is to support the Provincial team and network of community coordinators in successfully delivering the Program. The ideal candidate is one that flourishes in a collaborative, team atmosphere, but can also work independently and demonstrate initiative and sound judgement.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Support the Provincial team in delivering the WildSafeBC Program
  • Assist in staff recruitment, training, support and supervision
  • Assist with content creation, updating and organization and management of resources. This includes brochures, infographics, posters, signs, training resources, videos and more.
  • Assist in communication plans and monitoring of social media
  • Work closely with our partners on the Bear-resistant Product Testing Program
  • Assist in managing the Wildlife Alert Reporting Program and updating data
  • Collaborate with the WildSafeBC team new program development or improving existing ones
  • Support the development of communication plans and materials which include print resources, online content and presentations
  • Collaborate with the team to prepare and submit grant proposals and liaise with funding agencies
  • Work closely with the BCCF Regional Manager to work within budget constraints
  • Work closely with the team to meet project deadlines and deliverables, including reporting requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Science (Biology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or suitable equivalent)
  • Demonstrated professional writing and effective communication skills
  • Ability to travel occasionally with a valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings
  • Experience leading or supervising team members

Additional preferred qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in using Excel including pivot tables
  • Demonstrated experience in using Adobe suite including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign
  • Experience writing technical and/or scientific reports

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent organizational, administrative, research, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of wildlife in BC, an understanding of human-wildlife conflicts and a desire to learn more
  • Knowledge of social science or community based social marketing as a way of motivating changes in behaviour to achieve a desired outcome
  • Effective communication skills, both written and interpersonal, as well as an ability to work with a diverse team
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritize work on multiple projects
  • Ability to exercise mature judgement, initiative, diplomacy and tact
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, WordPress, Adobe Suite and social media platforms
  • Experience with social media platforms
  • Grant writing experience
  • Experience in developing communications plans and branding
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Demonstrated team building experience

Job Details

Full-time term position based out of Kamloops on the traditional territory of the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc. The wage range for this position is $25-$28 per hour commensurate with experience plus a competitive benefits package. The position is subject to a three-month probation period.

While we at BCCF do not currently have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine policy in place, many of our clients have enacted mandates that stipulate vaccination requirements be met by both their workers and their contractors. In light of this, some BCCF workers, contractors and volunteers—i.e., those who are or will be conducting work in spaces where our clients’ mandates are enforced—will be required to be fully vaccinated before they will be allowed to enter any of the mandate-affected worksites or risk being prevented from conducting the work, unless a properly supported Human Rights exemption applies.

Hours: 37.5hrs per week
Wage: $25.00-$28.00 per hour ($48,750 – $54,600)
