Employment Opportunity: Wildlife Naturalist
Type: summer job / age 30 & under

Term: 8 – 24 weeks, summer youth position (dependent upon external funding)
Remuneration: $15-$17/hr, 25-35hr/week

Job Description:

The Junction Creek Stewardship Committee is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and self-motivated individual to engage the community in the restoration and conservation of the Junction Creek ecosystem. Working under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and stewardship team, the Wildlife Naturalist will help community members connect with nature to gain an appreciation and knowledge for the natural world and environment, while raising awareness about current issues facing the Junction Creek watershed.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Candidates must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
• Candidates must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (international students are not eligible).
• Candidates must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Assisting in the planning and delivery of French and English educational programs, community outreach and activities that promote watershed stewardship.
• Providing safe, educational and fun learning experiences for participants.
• Tracking and reporting education and outreach activities for project reports.
• Maintain social media presence and increase awareness about the restoration of Junction Creek.
• Planning, organizing, and managing daily assigned work.
• Assisting in the recruitment and coordination of volunteers.
• Assisting in stewardship projects and data collection, as needed.
• Assisting with fundraisers and administrative tasks, as needed.

Qualifications and skills:

• Field of study related to biology, science communication, or education
• Bilingual, with oral and written fluency in French
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail and superior organizational skills
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
• Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
• Able to work occasional weekends and weekday evenings
• Valid Class G Driver’s Licence with clean driving record an asset
• First Aid and CPR training an asset
