Rate of Pay: $14/hr

Hours of Work: Flexible daily and weekly schedule to suit project needs and weather conditions. Working evenings and weekends will be required.
Wildlife Preservation Canada is seeking an endangered species technician to implement the 2019 breeding season activities for the Oregon spotted frog, Western painted turtles and Taylor’s checkerspot butterfly Recovery Programs. The scope of this internship is specifically the captive management, rearing, and release of individuals to supplement and create wild populations towards recovery objectives. The position is based out of the Greater Vancouver Zoo, in Aldergrove B.C. The assistant will also assist with field work to support these programs, including population monitoring, habitat monitoring and restoration; with locations including Vancouver and Denman Islands.
Under the supervision of the Biologist, the technician will be responsible for the care and release of captive-reared painted turtles, Oregon spotted frogs, and Taylor’s checkerspot butterflies. Additional field-based activities may include surveys, monitoring and collection. This position offers a unique opportunity to work first-hand with endangered species and gain experience in animal care and population recovery techniques in both a captive and field setting.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of a diploma with an environmental focus (e.g., environmental technology dip., fish and wildlife technology dip.). Candidates with a B.Sc. from a relevant discipline, or joint B.Sc. and diploma in a related field will be given priority.
