WILDERNESS CANOE TRIP GUIDES

Position: Summer Algonquin Park Canoe Trip Guides Full or Part-Time
Organization: Voyageur Quest

Location: based out of Algonquin Park Access Pt #1, east of South River, Ontario
Housing: Lakeside accommodation

Contracts: Mid June to end of August or mid-October, 2021
Terms: Per diem wage ($185+ per day) plus tips, Lakeside accommodation, recertification $ support, more (see below)

Voyageur Quest is a wilderness tour company that specializes in Algonquin Park. Though some of the large group arms of our business have been impacted by the covid pandemic, we feel extremely fortunate in anticipating another busy season on the private guided canoe trip and cottage adventure front. Our commitment in shaping our 2021 season will continue to be to provide private and small groups a safe place to connect with each other, fresh air, and adventure – all at the edge of Algonquin’s wilderness.

Algonquin Canoe Trip Guide Leaders

Voyageur Quest is looking for canoe guides to work 3 and 5-7-day canoe trips at the North West corner of Algonquin Park for our 2021 spring/summer and fall season. In addition to having an exceptional canoe tripping background, applicants should have strong leadership skills and be comfortable speaking about Algonquin flora, fauna, night sky, and local culture in front of an adult commercial and family market. Solid interpretative and program skills are essential. Our guides love to teach our guests about the wonders of Algonquin Park. Warmth and Hospitality skills are essential.

Applicants should have the following certification:

  • Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or equivalent
  • Solid Canoe Tripping experience
  • Lifeguarding Certification - National Lifeguard/Bronze/Cross or Swift Water Rescue
  • Strong leadership experience in a wilderness environment
  • Exceptionally strong canoe tripping background preferably in a commercial setting
  • Clear and satisfactory criminal record background check

All Canoe Guides must have:

  • Personal Paddle, PFD, tent & personal camping gear used for tripping
  • Comprehensive Wilderness First Aid Kit

Contracts available from:

  • from mid June to the end of August or mid-October

Salary:

  • from $185 to $250 per day (as per ESA and commensurate with certifications and experience) plus tips direct from customers

Other:

  • Lakeside shared cabin accommodation (floating sauna) and various training opportunities available.
