Position: Website & Content Creation Specialist
Organization: AWARE (Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment)

The Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment (AWARE) has been Whistler’s environmental charity for over 30 years. We work to progress community-scale solutions to some of the biggest challenges of our time. Climate Change. Habitat Loss. Wildlife. Waste.

The Position:

The Website & Content Creation Specialist will work with our Community Engagement Manager and small team to build the effectiveness of our online communications and programming tools. This is a great opportunity for those interested in learning about the delivery of environmental programs and the application of digital engagement strategies and tools to connect with varied stakeholder groups such as partners, resort visitors, community organizations and residents.

The role and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Website Design & Optimization

• Undertake review and improvement of AWARE's website functionality and user experience as a hub for local environmental information
• Design and build websites and online platforms for programs and initiatives supported by AWARE

Online Community Cultivation

• Utilize design principles and best practice to create recognizable brand identities and tools for AWARE, core programs and initiatives
• Develop infographics, social posts, presentation slides, etc that enable AWARE and partners to engage community in conservation and climate solutions
• Execute campaigns and promotions across AWARE’s social media channels including the execution of campaigns to expand AWARE’s reach/impact

Programming Promotions & Communications

• Support delivery and assessment of community engagement events, both online and in- person
• Create written content and graphic / visual imagery to support communication of project and advocacy efforts and outcomes
• Collaborate with programming leads to create & execute marketing and communications plans for ongoing programs, one-time projects and events

Online Engagement Effectiveness

• Set up monthly analytics and reports for external communication channels (e-newsletters, social media, and website activities) to evaluate effectiveness of online communications and programming
• Utilize analytics to benchmark online engagement and set up automated reporting systems
• Test online engagement strategies to evaluate and support ease of use, interactivity and active participation for target audiences

The nature of this position is such that the successful candidate will engage with the full range of 20+ local environmental initiatives AWARE works on in the Whistler community. As such it is a great way to get a breadth of experience in a short timeframe. This position is offered at 30hrs/week for a period of 6 months from June 6th 2022 to November 25th 2022 at a rate of $23-$26/hr (dependent on experience) and has the the potential to transition to a permanent role based on performance and funding.

About You:

Post-secondary education preferably in sciences or communications; have strong computer skills; a broad understanding of media and other communications channels; and a keen interest in the Whistler community and environmental issues.

The successful candidate will possess:

• Excellent verbal communication skills and written content development experience
• Eligible to work in Canada and located in the Sea to Sky corridor
• Organized, detail oriented, flexible and responsive working style
• Experience with website design, build and content development
• Experience of communication content development and distribution channels
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, graphic design programs and website platforms
• This role is well suited to people who have interest and experience in some or all of the following: the sciences; youth education; marketing/communication or digital content delivery
• Understanding / experience in the sciences, nature interpretation or environmental education program delivery an asset
