Little Mountain Farm is a one-acre mixed vegetable farm located near Mt Doug in Saanich, 15 minutes to downtown Victoria. We use all organic growing practices (though we are not certified organic) and grow primarily for our CSA (or Veggie Box program) which feeds 50 families per week over the course of the 26-week season (June-November), as well as one market and small wholesale orders.
We are looking for a part time apprentice to work alongside two experienced farmers this season. Tasks include bed prep, seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, washing and packing of produce. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, takes initiative and likes working in a fast paced environment. We grow 30-40 vegetable crops intensively on this small scale and are enthusistic about sharing our knowledge and experience with positive, motivated and hard working individuals who are seriously interested in learning how to grow food, and in how to run a successful mixed vegetable farm if that what you are working towards! We run the business very transparently and are open to passing on all the information we can in helping you get closer to a goal of growing for market.
We are looking for just this one part time apprentice to supplement our own work on the farm this season, so you will spend lots of time working directly with us. Ideally you will be able to work 2 days per week from mid-April to mid-October, 8 hours per day. Days of the week are somewhat negotiable and could be flexible over the course of the season, but Mondays and Thursdays would be the ideal. A stipend of $400/month plus lots of vegetables from the farm will be provided.
There may be an option to rent a room in the shared farm house if desired, though this position would be best suited to someone who lives in the Saanich or Victoria area.
