About the Farm:
Puddle Produce Farm is a small 1.5 acre sustainable vegetable farm established on a 70 acre property in the Soda Creek region of the Cariboo, approximately 40kms north of Williams Lake. We grow 25-30 different vegetables and microgreens for the local farmers market, a CSA program, and some retail.
About the Position:
The farm manager is looking for at least 1 committed, full-time farm hand from May 1st-Oct 1st. A September end date is possible too, if the successful candidate is registered for school.
Skills and Abilities Required:
Candidates with previous vegetable farm experience will be given preference, but we will consider candidates with experience in similar work (like landscaping), or other physically demanding work. The main priority is to find someone passionate about growing food, because we want you to be more of a partner than an employee!
Most common tasks for farm staff are planting, weeding, irrigating, harvesting, packaging, maintaining organization of the farm, recording field data, assisting with the weekly farmers market and CSA deliveries, and periodically keeping the 2 young farm dogs entertained (or out of trouble)
$13.85-$15/hour depending on experience. The candidate will work a 40hr work week, which includes one 1/2hr unpaid lunch break per day and 2 paid coffee breaks. Work days will typically be Mon-Fri but may change, if discussed in advance.
Staying on the farm
There is a self-contained (aka private!) furnished suite in the farm house available to full time farm staff. It is a 2 bedroom suite with 3 piece bathroom, kitchen, and wifi/phone (there is no cell service here). The suite is rented to the farm hand at $365/month. Farm staff are expected to do all their own cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping (we often do up lists and share shopping trips).
There are always tons of extra veggies to go around so those are available to the farm staff, as well as loans from the farm library and a couple bikes for dirt road rides.
Unfortunately, farm vehicles are not available to farm staff due to new ICBC regulations. If you don't have your own vehicle here, you might get a little cabin fever, but can get at least 1 ride into town per week.
How to Apply:
Submit (by email) a maximum 1 page cover letter, highlighting how your skills and experience might benefit Puddle Produce Farm operations, and why you're interested in farming! Please also submit a current resume. Deadline for applications is April 1st, 2019. If you have any questions, please feel free to email: no phonecalls, please.
