3 positions: Recycling Crew Members / Material Intake Technicians
Reports to: Facility Manager
Organization: The Ocean Legacy Foundation
Location: Richmond, Greater Vancouver BC

Are you concerned about plastic waste in the oceans? Interested in joining a team revolutionizing the marine debris recycling industry?

We are looking for a hard-working individual to join our crew to help sort and size reduce marine debris collected from shoreline cleanups throughout B.C coastlines. We are hiring three full-time positions at our Marine Debris Recycling Facility in Vancouver.  The ideal candidates are motivated, tactile, organized and passionate about the ocean plastic pollution issue.  

Crews will receive, prepare and organize shipments of marine debris. Crew members are expected to maintain a clean, safe working environment and adhere to all BC Occupational Health and Safety regulations, including COVID-19 safety and sanitation requirements. Due to the manual and physical level of work required for this position, the ideal candidate must be able bodied and comfortable lifting and moving 30lbs.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Take direction from the Facility Manager on daily priorities;
  • Offload and receive scheduled shipments of marine debris from Ocean Legacy and affiliated partners;
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and follow quality control procedures including: wearing personal PPE, participating in shift start stretches, etc; 
  • Sort marine debris into its various resin codes and subcategories (circuit paths);
  • Size reduce marine debris at various stations on processing circuit;
  • Move, weigh, sort, stage, catalogue and tag inventory at all stages on circuit;
  • Maintain daily product specification standards and facility sanitization standards; 
  • Load material on schedule for transportation


  • Familiarity with marine debris material types, plastic resins and equipment processing
  • Experience in production centres, recycle depots or a warehouse environment
  • Experience safely using power tools and heavy equipment
  • Forklift certificaton

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • End Date: November 30th, 2021
  • Salary: $27.40/hr  
  • Hours: 8 hour/day; 40hrs/week; Monday to Friday. Weekend shifts may be requested depending on timing of some incoming marine debris loads
  • Start Time: May vary depending on incoming marine debris loads
  • Location: Richmond for June and commencing at Steveston Harbour, July to November
  • Position includes WorksafeBC coverage
