Position: Field to Table Coordinator
Type: full-time 1-year contract

The position: Ecosource recently launched a Local Food Hub in the heart of Mississauga. With new on-site facilities, including a commercial teaching kitchen and demonstration food garden, we are looking for someone to help us develop new hands-on programming. The Field to Table Coordinator will support community education workshops and events about local food, as well as support farmer’s market outreach and urban agriculture food production. You are an enthusiastic, innovative and self-starting individual who has the experience necessary to develop educational local food programming and support community outreach.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and delivers community education workshops, events and projects at Ecosource’s Local Food Hub.
  • Expands our social enterprise initiative at local farmers’ markets and events as well as explores new product lines and direct-distribution opportunities.
  • Coordinates youth leaders, community volunteers, partner organizations, school/community groups and corporate engagement at Ecosource’s Local Food Hub.
  • Works with our Urban Agriculture Coordinator on Ecosource’s new Peel Local Food Literacy in Action Project at our Iceland Teaching Garden and across Peel to connect participants with nature through environmental education.
  • Supports garden maintenance and vegetable harvests at Ecosource’s Local Food Hub.
  • Develops evaluation tools and strategies for Field to Table programs.
  • Communicates effectively with key program partners and stakeholders to ensure program deliverables are met and address community needs/gaps in service.
  • Coordinates outreach for Ecosource programs at related community events across the Region of Peel.
  • Supervises seasonal staff and student interns who support local food education programs.
  • Tracks program-related statistics, budgets and expenses, and supports reporting activities as required.
  • Explores new opportunities to diversify program funding on an ongoing basis.
  • Acts as a representative of Ecosource to the community and assists with other Ecosource activities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in education, nutrition, culinary arts, environmental studies, or related field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in food skills programming in a coordination role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of organic food production principals, food skills development and food transformation methods, such as canning and preserving.
  • Experience facilitating hands-on food literacy and local food systems programs.
  • Experience working with children, youth and community members of all ages and skill levels.
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, and comfort in working in diverse settings.
  • Skilled in volunteer outreach and coordination.
  • Strong belief in creating social and environmental change through community education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and anti-oppression principles.
  • Familiarity with the environmental sector, community needs and programming in the Region of Peel.
  • Energetic individual with an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills and online communication tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable vehicle for transportation preferred.
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit sector, food/agriculture sector and working with diverse communities are definite assets.

Application Information:

This is a full-time 1-year contract at 35 hours per week, with the possibility of extension dependent on funding. Some evening and weekend work will be required. Salary is in the mid $40,000s (dependent upon experience) and a comprehensive benefits package is offered.
